Engaging Community Language learners: Motivating students through meaningful learning and teaching (presentation for NSW community language teachers, with NSW FCLS, 2020)
Motivation is no doubt a very important factor in influencing students’ achievement. This workshop aims to cover briefly how motivation has been conceptualized from the social, phycological, and educational perspectives. It is hoped that with a better understanding of the theoretical framework on motivation in the classroom, teachers will develop better strategies and skills relevant for engaging students in the learning process, making learning more meaningful and achieving better results. Some practical examples will be drawn from different language contexts, but are applicable to teaching any community language.
