In 2016, when I commenced my teaching journey in Australia, I encountered a unique challenge: my students were located across vast distances, spanning every Australian state and territory, and sometimes even beyond national borders. This situation was unprecedented in my teaching and academic career. As I empathised with my remote students, I realized that merely providing them with weekly Word or PDF documents and occasional audio files would not be sufficient. I was determined to ensure that my remote learners had equal opportunities for education compared to those on campus.

It took some time and effort, but eventually, I devised a workable solution. Looking back, I now recognize that I had been delivering teaching in a hybrid flexible mode long before I became aware of the term. If I were one of my remote students, I would have desired a seamless learning experience. Today, I am eager to share my accidental journey into HyFlex and the valuable tips and tricks I’ve acquired to facilitate smooth blended synchronous teaching.
